Celebrating history, art and architecture
through education
Within the walls and grounds of Sacred Heart Cultural Center are hidden treasures of
knowledge to be discovered by students in the classroom. Using its history and architecture
as the medium, Sacred Heart offers teachers an interesting way to teach students Science,
History, English/Language Arts, and Social Studies.
Stained glass windows are not only a beautiful feature of Sacred Heart, but a wonderful example
of how math is applied. Science comes into play when you observe the nature of light cast through
its prisms. Students can learn how Sacred Heart was designed and constructed literally from
the ground up. Learning Sacred Heart’s founding, decline, and re-invention as a Cultural Center
enhances a student’s understanding of history so close to home. With knowledge comes appreciation –
students will come away seeing the importance of the Sacred Heart in our community.
